Important Information Regarding Property Insurance Claims in Texas
When the rain is pouring in is not usually the time you want to think about recent state legislation, but for millions of Texan's affected by Hurricane Harvey, it's exactly what they should be doing.
Effective this Friday, September 1, 2017, a new anti-property owner law will go into effect which severely limits the rights of property owners when demanding prompt full value payment on their claims from insurers. To attempt to take advantage of limited parts of current Texas insurance law, property owners who have damage claims from Hurricane Harvey MUST send a written message or email directly to their insurance carrier that specifically references their claim and is dated before September 1, 2017. Verbal notice will be insufficient. Please make sure to keep a copy of what was sent. It is important to know that the new law will govern claims and lawsuits filed after the effective date.
As always, feel free to contact the attorneys at Lee Murphy Demerath & Nicholson with any questions regarding your insurance claim. We are here to help you from the beginning.
