Tropical Storm Emily Makes Landfall

Tropical Storm Emily made landfall this morning along Florida's Gulf Coast near the Tampa/St. Petersburg metro area. Wind gust near 40 mph was observed near the Sarasota-Bradenton Airport along with gusts up to 60 mph which prompted the closure of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, which connects St. Petersburg to Manatee County. According to The National Severe Storms Laboratory, winds can cause damage when they reach 50 mph.  Heavy rain and flooding are expected into the week.
